Jo: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your English text book.

Jo: Today’s word is ‘butty’ – B.U.T.T.Y – butty.

Jean: Butty. Butty

In the long life span, we will definitely experience a wealth of setbacks. Its more than a possibility. It's an inevitability. A great variety of highly uncertain failures and difficulties will be on our life path..

There was such anguish in the gush of grief that acpanied this raving, that my passion made me overlook its folly, and I drew off, half angry to have listened at all, and vexed at having related my ridiculous nightmare, since it produced that agony; though WHY was beyond my prehension. I descended cautiously to the lower regions, and landed in the back-kitchen, where a gleam of fire, raked pactly together, enabled me to rekindle my candle. Nothing was stirring except a brindled, grey cat, which crept from the ashes, and saluted me with a querulous mew.

Two benches, shaped in sections of a circle, nearly enclosed the hearth; on one of these I stretched myself, and Grimalkin mounted the other. We were both of us nodding ere any one invaded our retreat, and then it was Joseph, shuffling down a wooden ladder that vanished in the roof, through a trap: the ascent to his garret, I suppose. He cast a sinister look at the little flame which I had enticed to play between the ribs, swept the cat from its elevation, and bestowing himself in the vacancy, menced the operation of stuffing a three-inch pipe with tobacco. My presence in his sanctum was evidently esteemed a piece of impudence too eful for remark: he silently applied the tube to his lips, folded his arms, and puffed away. I let him enjoy the luxury unannoyed; and after sucking out his last wreath, and heaving a profound sigh, he got up, and departed as solemnly as he came.

A more elastic footstep entered next; and now I opened my mouth for a 'good-morning,' but closed it again, the salutation unachieved; for Hareton Earnshaw was performing his orison SOTTO VOCE, in a series of curses directed against every object he touched, while he rummaged a corner for a spade or shovel to dig through the drifts. He glanced over the back of the bench, dilating his nostrils, and thought as little of exchanging civilities with me as with my panion the cat. I guessed, by his preparations, that egress was allowed, and, leaving my hard couch, made a movement to follow him. He noticed this, and thrust at an inner door with the end of his spade, intimating by an inarticulate sound that there was the place where I must go, if I changed my locality.

worth one's salt

(1)Not everyone in our factory is worth his salt.
(2)Any engineer worth his salt should know how that machine works.

Everybody knows our economy needs a jolt. And no one knows that better than the country's governors, whether they are Democratic or Republican.

"I know there are some differences of opinion on some of the elements," Governor Jim Douglas (R-Vt) said today before meeting with President Obama to discuss how states and the federal government can work together. "And if I were writing it, it might be a little different. If you were writing it, it might be a little different,日譯中. But the essence of a recovery package is essential to get our nation's economy moving."

The President has been working hard to reach out to Republicans and incorporate their input into the plan. Last week he met with Republican Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill, and just yesterday he invited a bipartisan group of senators and representatives over to the White House residence to watch the Super Bowl. That effort continued today.

You can read the full remarks from Governor Douglas and President Obama below.

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT

January 12, 2008

THE PRESIDENT: I want to thank these ladies from Kuwait for joining me and the Chargé. I'm really looking forward to the conversation. Laura had met with some before and came back very impressed by the spirit and desire of Kuwaiti women to be full participants in Kuwaiti society.

First, I'd like to thank His Highness for his hospitality. Secondly, last night in a conversation with His Highness I said, any regrets about having women vote in elections and run for elections? He said, absolutely not. He said, our society is enriched by the participation of our women. And he's right. All societies are enriched by the participation of women. I happen to believe very strongly in the freedom agenda and I think an integral part of that agenda is making sure that all participants in society have got an equal voice.

And one of the interesting -- I think when people look back at the history of the Middle East and history of the world it's going to be women who helped lead the freedom agenda. And it's happening right here in Kuwait. We've had people here at the table who ran for Kuwaiti parliament. Jenan ran, she said -- I told her the first race I ever ran, I lost -- (laughter) -- and she said, well, the first ran I ever ran I lost too. But she intends to win next time around.

And so I appreciate you all ing. I'm honored to be with you. We want to help -- part of our democracy agenda, of course, is the empowerment of women.

Phishing, also referred to as brand spoofing(哄騙) or carding, is a variation on “fishing,” the idea being that bait is thrown out with the hopes that while most will ignore the bait, some will be tempted into biting.

Over the moon源於一尾懽快的兒歌:“Hey, diddle, diddle/The cat and the fiddle/The cow jumped over the moon/The little dog laughed/To see such sport/And the dish ran away with the spoon.”(嘿,快搖、快搖/貓咪跟小提琴/母牛跳過月亮/小狗看到哈哈笑/碟子帶著湯勺不見了。)

The whole team is over the moon at winning the petition.(齐隊果贏得這場比賽而懽吸雀躍。)

Neil: Yes. There are tribute bands to Abba, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, and many others.

Insert

A: I watched The Doors live in concert yesterday.

B: What? That’s impossible. Their singer died in 1971!

To the followers of Buddhism the rabbit was placed in the moon as a result of his self-sacrifice in offering himself as food. In a second version, the rabbit cooks himself in Indra's fire since he had no food to offer her and the deity placed him in the moon as a reward. To the Egyptians, the hare (as opposed to the rabbit) was known as un, which meant "to open," or "the opener." This was because the hare, unlike his cotton-tailed cousin, is born with his eyes open. "Un" also meant "period" as it was a symbol for both lunar and human cycles.
